Ikea, I have beaten you!We now have everything to complete our Ikea cabinets. When we first filled up the 5 shopping carts of the various parts for our cabinets, we left there knowing that we still had at least 10 items on backorder. While in most any other store in the Universe this would be easily solved through shipping, Ikea doesn't work that way. Instead, they take your phone number and call you when it has arrived at the warehouse.
This meathod would be acceptable if they were to hold on to the item(s) for us to pick-up, but instead, it is a mad rush to the warehouse to pick it up--hoping to still find the needed items on the shelf. While any sane person might think calling to see if the part is still there before you go might be a good idea, Ikea doesn't seem to like staffing the phones so you end up with an answering machine in some back office. In the end, it took us 3 trips, but we did manage to collect everything. Next weekend I'll begin to the process of putting them together.
I sucessfully prototyped a concrete countertop, making a 1.5 ft by 1.5 ft chunk of rock. It is pigmented the same color as the slate we wanted to include in the backspash. All-in-all it was a pretty fun project so I'm looking forward to doing the real thing.
